OPFY Troops Kill Terrorist, Arrest 8 Suspects in Zamfara Operation

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have launched a devastating blow against criminal elements across Zamfara State, neutralizing a terrorist and dismantling strategic logistics hubs in a series of high-stakes encounters. The intensified military pressure resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of motorcycles, communication gear, and military-style uniforms, signaling a major breakthrough in the ongoing effort to stabilize the region and protect vulnerable communities from banditry.

According to a statement released on June 8, 2026, by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the successes followed coordinated fighting patrols and rapid response missions. The military spokesperson emphasized that the operations have left terrorist elements increasingly desperate as their sustenance and logistics chains continue to buckle under the weight of sustained offensive maneuvers.

The theater of operations saw significant action on June 5, when troops patrolling Birnin Tsaba and Tsanu villages in the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area engaged terrorists in a fierce firefight. During the exchange, one insurgent was neutralized while seven motorcycles were seized from the fleeing criminals. This victory was bolstered by another intelligence-led operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area, where a suspect believed to be the intended recipient of recently intercepted ammunition was apprehended at Tupa village.

The momentum continued into June 6, as security forces thwarted a terror attack at Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi village in Kaura Namoda and responded to a violent ambush on commuters along the Kaura Namoda–Zurmi Road. While the terrorists managed to flee into the bush after looting personal belongings, the swift intervention of the troops ensured the evacuation of injured victims and the securing of the highway. Ongoing search-and-rescue efforts are currently underway to track the perpetrators and recover any abducted passengers.

In a final blow to the criminal networks, eight suspected bandits were arrested during a raid on Tudun Wada and Dan Gulbi communities in the Maru Local Government Area. Beyond the arrests, troops recovered an additional seven motorcycles, mobile phones, power banks, and specialized communication equipment. A structure utilized by the suspects was also demolished, further crippling their operational capacity. Operation FANSAN YAMMA has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining this offensive posture and has called on the public to continue supporting the military with timely intelligence.
