Civil-military relations: Garrison Eagles wins 1 Brigade NA volleyball competition

The Garrison Eagles volleyball team has emerged champions of a three-day inter-agency volleyball tournament organized by the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau.

The tournament, according to the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General T. M. Opurum, was aimed at fostering unity, mutual understanding, and enhancing civil-military relations. His message was delivered by his representative, Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Gobir, during the closing ceremony.

A total of eight teams, including security agencies and civilian sides such as ZACAS, Tsafe Volleyball Team, and others, competed in the tournament. The final match saw Garrison Eagles defeat the 42 PMF team to clinch the top spot, while Eagle Spikers claimed third place.

Chairman of the organizing committee, CSP Aliyu Moses, said the tournament was fully sponsored by Brig Gen Opurum, who is passionate about building interagency cooperation and strengthening military-civilian trust.

Speaking at the finals, the Member of the House of Representatives for Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency, Honourable Abdulmalik Zubairu Zannan Bungudu, represented by his media aide Aminu Lawal Bungudu, commended the initiative.

He said the event created a platform for the military and civilians to interact and exchange ideas, which will boost intelligence gathering and help in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

The lawmaker donated ₦500,000 to the organizing committee, ₦100,000 to the winning team, and ₦50,000 each to the second and third-placed teams. He also gifted a volleyball to each of the eight participating teams.

The Garrison Eagles received a trophy and ₦100,000 as winners. The 42 PMF team got ₦60,000 and medals for finishing second, while Eagle Spikers received ₦50,000 and medals for placing third. All players were awarded medals, with special recognition given to outstanding individual performers.
