Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the constitution of a transition committee to ensure the smooth take-off of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology (FUHST), Tsafe.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant (Media), Office of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, the committee will oversee the transfer of structures, integration of students, and absorption of eligible staff from the College of Health Sciences and Technology (CHST), Tsafe into the new university.
He explained that the committee is mandated to review and verify the academic status, transcripts, and programme structures of CHST students to align them with JAMB, NUC, and university standards.
The committee will also assess staff qualifications, ranks, and experience to determine suitability for employment under the university’s conditions of service and NUC staffing guidelines.
Additionally, the committee is tasked with proposing land for FUHST’s future expansion and evaluating whether CHST Tsafe should be relocated to another part of the state.
Members of the committee include academics, commissioners, governing council chairmen, and senior government officials, with Prof. Lawal S. Bilbis serving as chairman.
The state government recalled that it had earlier pledged the entire CHST Tsafe structures as the permanent site for the university during a Senate public hearing in May 2024, reaffirming Governor Lawal’s commitment to advancing education and development in the state.
