The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project recently conducted a comprehensive sensitization campaign across all 14 local government areas in Zamfara State, aimed at promoting girl child education and empowerment.
The initiative focused on enhancing enrollment, ownership, sustainability, and providing a second chance for young women to continue their education. Additionally, it emphasized the retention and completion of schooling for adolescent girls in the state.
According to the Zamfara State Coordinator for AGILE, Hajia Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau, the program deployed multiple teams of experts and facilitators who toured the state, engaging approximately 1,500 stakeholders. The sensitization sessions covered the project’s aims, objectives, and anticipated positive outcomes for community development.
Attendees included mothers, students, traditional and religious leaders, traders, and other influential figures, all of whom were encouraged to ask questions, make comments, and offer suggestions for clearer understanding.
Bashir Kabiru Ahmad, AGILE Zamfara State’s Communication Officer, noted that the sessions were held simultaneously across the local government areas in an interactive format. To enhance engagement and inclusivity, facilitators delivered information in the local language, ensuring that participants from all backgrounds could actively participate and understand the discussions.
By promoting awareness about the AGILE project and its benefits, organizers aim to foster community support for girl child education, hoping that greater awareness will lead to increased enrollment, retention, and completion rates among adolescent girls in Zamfara State.
