Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the employment of 2,000 teachers as part of efforts to revamp the education sector in Zamfara State.
The announcement was made during an Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau on Monday, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

The recruitment, which fulfills a key campaign promise, is aimed at addressing critical gaps in the state’s educational system.
The statement highlighted some giant strides made in the sector since Governor Lawal declared a state of emergency on education in November 2023.
These include the construction and renovation of over 400 schools, provision of 12,000 two-seater desks, and equipping classrooms with 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers across the state’s 14 local government areas. Speaking at the meeting, Governor Lawal outlined plans for a phased recruitment process, starting with 500 teachers in the first quarter of 2025.
“Emphasis will be placed on critical subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ICT, and Entrepreneurship studies,” the governor said.
The recruitment is part of the World Bank-supported AGILE Program and is designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Zamfara schools.
