
The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued five kidnapped victims following a swift tactical operation along the Anka–Bukkuyum Road. The successful rescue mission was achieved after a fierce gun battle between police operatives and armed bandits.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command. According to him, the operation was carried out on 10th June 2026 at about 7:00pm by operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The PPRO said that the operatives acted on credible intelligence indicating that armed bandits had barricaded the Anka–Bukkuyum Road and abducted five travellers. Upon receiving the distress information, the police team immediately mobilised to the scene and launched a coordinated rescue mission.
He noted that the operatives pursued the suspects into the surrounding bush, where they intercepted the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a gun battle. Faced with the superior firepower and determination of the police operatives, the criminals abandoned their mission and fled into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.

DSP Yazid added that the operation resulted in the successful rescue of all five victims without injury. He further revealed that two motorcycles used by the bandits were recovered at the scene.
According to him, the Zamfara State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities across the state and ensuring the safety of all residents. The PPRO concluded by encouraging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and actionable information.
