The Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma has refuted reports alleging that a military jet targeted civilian structures in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, issued the clarification in a statement on December 25, 2024.
According to the statement, all military operations are guided by intelligence and reconnaissance to ensure precision strikes, particularly against terrorist groups like the Lakurawa organization.
The task force emphasized that such measures are designed to minimize civilian casualties while effectively countering terrorist activities. The statement urged the public to verify information before dissemination, noting that terrorists might spread disinformation to discredit military achievements. It further clarified that the airstrike in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa specifically targeted facilities linked to the Lakurawa group, based on confirmed intelligence.
The military appealed for public support in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry, stressing the need for unity in addressing these challenges.
