Onslaught: Troops Kill Terrorists, Rescue Three in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralized two terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims, and recovered a cache of arms and logistics during operations across the Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday. He noted that the operational successes were part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of banditry and terrorist activities.

According to the statement, troops on a fighting patrol on June 12 made contact with a group of terrorists in the Yanbuki District of Zurmi Local Government Area. In the ensuing firefight, the gallant troops neutralized one terrorist and recovered rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, and military apparel.

Advancing further to Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled after sensing the superior firepower of the approaching forces. The troops subsequently cleared and completely destroyed the enclave to prevent the criminals from regrouping.In a separate operation along the Shinkafi-Moriki axis, troops conducting a routine patrol successfully ambushed another band of terrorists.

During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralized, while the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and assorted charms.Lieutenant Colonel Osoba confirmed that the three victims rescued during these operations are currently receiving necessary care, with efforts underway to reunite them with their families.

He restated the military’s commitment to restoring peace in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, while urging the public to continue supporting the troops with timely and credible information.
