OPFY Troops Arrest Bandit, Rescue 9 Kidnap Victims, Recover Animals in Katsina

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims, recovered 56 rustled livestock, and arrested a suspected terrorist in separate operations across Katsina State.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, the operations demonstrate the unit’s success in countering criminal activities within the theatre. He noted that these actions are part of a broader strategy to neutralize security threats and protect local communities.

Lt Col Danja explained that in Faskari Local Government Area, patrol troops rescued nine victims, three women, four men, and two children who had been abducted on July 9 along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road. The victims, who escaped their captors while the terrorists were asleep, were intercepted by troops and are now being processed for safe reunification with their families.

Separately, troops acting on credible intelligence disrupted a rustling attempt in Bakori Local Government Area. When confronted, the terrorists fled, leaving behind 56 livestock, including four cattle and 52 sheep. The animals remain in military custody until whe they can be formally handed over to local authorities.

Danja noted that, a suspected terrorist was apprehended during routine operations in Danmusa Local Government Area. Authorities recovered materials linked to terrorist activities from the suspect, who is currently being held for further investigation.

The Theatre Commander has commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance. He reaffirmed the military’s resolve to continue working with other security agencies and the public to decisively defeat terrorism and restore lasting peace to the North West.
