FUGUS VC Inducted fellow of Biochemistry society

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Professor M.G. Abubakar, has been honoured as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB).

According to a statement released by the Head, Committee on Media and Communications, Dr. Linus Akor the prestigious induction took place on Monday, July 8, 2025, during a colourful ceremony at the Assembly Hall of Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Prof. Abubakar was inducted alongside six other distinguished professionals in the field.

The fellowship, considered the highest honour of the 47-year-old Society, followed a unanimous nomination and approval by the NSBMB National Executive Committee.

According to the award letter signed by the Society’s Secretary General, Prof. Abdulkadir Abubakar, Prof. M.G. Abubakar was recognised for his outstanding contributions to the growth and visibility of the NSBMB both within and outside Nigeria.

An alumnus of the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof. Abubakar is also the first professor of Toxicology from North Western Nigeria. He is a member of several international bodies, including the Biochemical Society UK, British Toxicology Society, and West African Society of Pharmacology.

The management and entire university community of FUGUS congratulated the Vice Chancellor on this well-deserved recognition, describing it as a source of pride for the institution.
