HUMINT Development Consult Ltd, with support from the MacArthur Foundation, and in partnership with WRAPA, NAWOJ, PAACA, and PLAC, concluded a two-day workshop aimed at building the capacity of female journalists in Northwest Nigeria.
The training, held in Sokoto State under the theme “The Role of Women Journalists in the Reforms of Democratic Processes in Nigeria,” gathered about 40 participants from Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara. It emphasized the vital contributions of women journalists to democratic governance and national development.
Speaking on behalf of NAWOJ National Chairperson Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, Zonal Secretary Hajiya Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu applauded HUMINT for initiating the program, calling it a key move in empowering women in the media space.
The workshop sessions focused on political gender inclusion, media’s role in electoral reforms, and leadership development.
Speakers included NAWOJ Zonal Vice President Hajiya Rabi Gwadabawa and ex-NTA News24 GM, Hajiya Fatima Abbas Hassan.
Representing the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sarkin Yaki Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi commended the initiative and underlined the importance of female political engagement in driving change across the region.
Participants included stakeholders from civil society, media, academia, WRAPA, and the NUJ.
