The latest round of consultations on minimum wage between Organized Labour and President Bola Tinubu has once again ended without reaching a conclusive agreement.
The meeting, initiated by President Tinubu, concluded without any significant resolutions being made.
Emerging from the meeting, Labour leaders informed reporters that discussions with the Presidency would continue next week. They noted that they needed to report back to their respective organizations on the discussions with the President.
Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, stated that the positions remain unchanged, with Labour advocating for N250,000 and the Federal Government proposing N62,000.
The Nigerian public, particularly the workforce, has been anticipating a new minimum wage in response to the removal of petroleum subsidies, which has led to a significant increase in the cost of living, making it challenging for workers to make ends meet.
