President Tinubu approves increase in salaries of tertiary institutions staff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an increase in the salaries of staff of tertiary institution in Nigeria

The presidential approval of 35% and 23%  was announced in a memo from the office of the Auditor-General to Directors of Audit, Heads of Department, Heads of Units, and all Staff.

It states that the salary increase was approved by the Presidential Committee on Salaries at its 13th meeting, after taking into consideration the different stages of collective bargaining in various sectors, and specifically engagements between the Federal Ministry of Education and Tertiary Institutions-based Unions.

The salary increase,  effective January 1, 2023 will apply to the following salary structures:

I. Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Salary Structure (CONPCASS) for Academic Staff of Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education

II. Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II) for non- Academic Staff of Federal Universities

III. Consolidated Tertiary Education Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) non-Academic Staff of Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education

IV. Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure II (CONUASS II) for Academic Staff of Federal University

The memo also states that arrears of the salary increase will be paid from January 1, 2023
