Zamfara assembly passes 2024 budget, recommends use of IPSAS

The Zamfara state house of assembly has passed the 2024 fiscal year budget as presented by the state governor Dauda Lawal.

In a Press release signed by the press secretary of the house Bello Madaro said, During an Extraordinary plenary session of the house held on Thursday 28th, December, 2023, the House of Assembly has unanimously approved the budget after receiving a report from its Standing  Committee on Finance and Appropriation that scrutinized  the Fiscal Year Ending 2024 Budget Estimate.

It  Could  be recalled that The 2024 Appropriation Bill Which is estimated at Four Hundred and Twenty Three Bilion , Five Hundred and Twenty Three Million, , Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira ,(N432,523,730) was presented before the House on 21st, December, 2023 by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and was given First and Second Readings on that Day.

Presenting the Report, Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, and a Member representing Zurmi East, Hon Halliru Abdullahi Kuturu said the Committee has Scrutinized the 2024 Budget, and made corrections and adjustments where necessary.

Hon Halliru Abdullahi Kuturu explained that in the Committee’s findings, it observes  that the 2024 Budget Estimate is centered at achieving Campaign Promises Made by the State Governor Dr Dauda Lawal. Noting that remarkable Success was  achieved in Revenue generation from MDAs Much better than 2022.

According to the Committee Chairman they have also recommended the implementation of IPSAS Budget Compliance, as well as the need for the Ministry of Finance and Budget to Strategize  their effort with regards to reporting of actual expenditure of MDAs.

On his part, the Speaker of the house Rt Hon Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki led a deliberation on the report during which the House Minority Leader and Member  Representing Talata Mafara  South  Hon Aliyu Ango Kagara  and Member Representing Gummi One,  Hon Bashiru Aliyu Gummi described the Committee’s Report as very Comprehensive.

Therefore the Speaker, with  Unanimous consent of the entire Hon  Members, directed Clerk to the House,  Alhaji Mamuda Aliyu to give the Bill Third and Final Readings and subsequently passed the budget which will be forwarded to the state governor for Assent.
