Court halts Zamfara assembly’s move to sack lawmaker Aliyu Kagara

The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau has stopped the Zamfara State House of Assembly from removing Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara, the All Progressives Congress (APC) legislator representing Talata Mafara South Constituency.

This was disclosed in a statement issued today (Monday) by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris Gusau.

He said the ruling followed a suit (No. FHC/GSCS/10/2025) filed by Kagara against the state Assembly, its Speaker, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after his removal from office.

Presiding over the case, Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim granted an interim injunction barring INEC from conducting a bye-election for the seat.

The judge also ordered that the status quo be maintained pending further hearings.

The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025. Meanwhile, the state Assembly has suspended nine lawmakers from different parties, a move that has reduced its membership below the two-thirds majority required for passing bills.
