Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to construct Gotawa earth Dam in Zurmi and Shinkafi axis, Kwatarkwashi-Rawayya bypass, Anka-Bagega-Mutunji federal roads and other developmental projects in the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media, Office of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Suleman Ahmad Tudu and made available to SMART NEWS on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Governor Lawal made the appeal during a Town Hall Meeting with stakeholders organized by the Office of the Personal Assistant to President Tinubu on Constituency Affairs, Hon Khadijat Omotayo Kareem in Gusau, Zamfara state capital.
The Governor, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Project Implementation, Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi has lamented lack of ongoing federal government projects in Zamfara state, apart from the ongoing construction of Zaria—Sokoto road initiated by the former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite the fact that Zamfara has contributed the highest number of votes to Tinubu in the last presidential election more than any other state in the northwest.
He also vividly called for more efforts from the federal government towards addressing insecurity, which is the major challenge bedeviling Zamfara state and remains the topmost priority of his rescue mission.
It can be recalled that on Tuesday, while receiving Ms. Khadijat and her entourage in his office, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada has on behalf of the government and people of Zamfara state, promised to compile some demands for onward submission to Mr President.
“The people of Zamfara have spoken and you heard them loud and clear. The Zamfara state government has aligned with the position of its people here.
“On our own part, we have some projects that we require from the federal government because, apart from Zaria—Sokoto road which was awarded by the former President Buhari before he left office, we don’t have a single project that was initiated by this (Tinubu’s) administration.
“For instance, the federal government has constructed so many bypass roads in other states like Kaduna and Kano. Based on that we made a proposal for the construction of a bypass road from Kwatarkwashi to Rawayya to link up with Gusau—Kaura Namoda road. We also made a submission for construction of a federal road that started from Anka—Bagega—Mutunji.
“We equally made submissions for the construction of Gotawa Dam with potentialities of having 18,000 hectares of land, dry season farming and generating up to 100 Megawatts of electricity,” the commissioner said on behalf of Governor Lawal.
In her remarks earlier, the PA to Mr President on Constituency Affairs, Hon Khadijat Omotayo appreciated the Zamfara State Government for the hospitality, reaffirming that all the submissions will be escalated to Mr President who, according to her, has Zamfara state in mind.
