Army Renovates Kanoma Health Centre, Provides Ambulance

The Nigerian Army has delivered a newly renovated and fully equipped Primary Health Care Centre, along with an ambulance, to the people of Kanoma in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The project, carried out under the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation initiative, was officially commissioned on Thursday.

Representing the COAS, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau, Brig. Gen. Mustapha Jimoh, described the effort as part of the Army’s commitment to development and community wellbeing. He urged residents to safeguard the facility for long-term use.

Explaining the scope of work, Brig. Gen. Abdullahi Danladi, who supervised the project, said the centre originally built by the Kanoma community decades ago, had fallen into disrepair with faulty roofing, cracked floors, poor electricity supply, and inadequate equipment.

The Army fully remodelled the building, added a security post, installed modern fittings, stocked essential drugs, and provided an ambulance. He noted that the intervention revealed the Army’s belief that true security includes safeguarding citizens’ health.

The facilitator of the project, Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Aminu Kanoma, a native of the community, appealed to residents to support the Army by sharing intelligence that could help in combating terrorists and protecting lives and property.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Maru Local Government, Bello Jabaka, and the District Head of Kanoma, Yahaya Muhammad Kanoma, applauded the initiative.

Jabaka added that the council spends millions monthly on malaria treatment, fumigation, and consumables for its ten wards, noting that the upgraded health centre will reduce this burden and enhance healthcare delivery.
