
The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles during a stop-and-search operation along the Gusau–Funtua Highway.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, said the arrest was part of sustained efforts to prevent the spread of illegal firearms and ensure peace and security across the state.
According to the statement, the arrest was made on January 11, 2026, at about noon by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol attached to the Department of Operations, while conducting routine checks between Kotorkoshi and Tazame areas.

The police intercepted a Golf vehicle with registration number ABUJA KUJ 893 CK and arrested one Samaila Na’ibi of Kuya Village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, who was found with two locally made AK-47 rifles concealed in a sack.
The vehicle was reportedly driven by Samaila Aminu from Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The vehicle was impounded, while the suspects and recovered firearms were taken to the Kotorkoshi Divisional Police Headquarters.
The statement added that the suspects and exhibits would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
The Zamfara State Police Command reiterated its determination to fight illegal arms and other criminal activities and urged residents to continue providing useful information to assist the police in safeguarding lives and property.
