Banditry: Ministry of Defence, CDS, security chiefs relocate to sokoto

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a decisive military operation aimed at eradicating banditry and terrorism in the North West region.

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has announced that he, along with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other military chiefs, will personally oversee the operations in Sokoto, which serves as the headquarters for military activities in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states.

Expressing deep concern over the ongoing activities of terrorists and bandits in the region, Dr. Matawalle emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security. “We cannot tolerate this any longer,” Matawalle stated, highlighting the recent circulation of a video by the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

The video depicted a Nigerian military armoured vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, with bandits later celebrating the incident.

“This is unacceptable,” Matawalle declared, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been providing significant support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to deploy all necessary resources to eliminate the threat posed by these criminal elements.

The operation is a direct response to the persistent threat of banditry and terrorism in the North West. Dr. Matawalle assured the people of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states that the military will intensify operations to ensure the complete eradication of these criminal gangs.

“The time is up for these bandits and terrorists,” he said, adding that consistent and increased military pressure will weaken their bases and restore freedom of movement for the local populations.

Dr. Matawalle called on the Armed Forces of Nigeria to remain steadfast in their mission and urged residents of the affected states to stay vigilant and cooperate with security forces.

“The security and well-being of our people remain the government’s top priority,” he assured, reiterating the government’s resolve to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians.

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, accompanied by the CDS and other military chiefs, will be on the ground in the North West, leading the operations and boosting the morale of the armed forces.

The Federal Government has vowed not to leave any stone unturned in its quest to rid the region of banditry and terrorism.
