Defence minister, US envoy meet on security ties

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Thursday, received the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard M. Mills, Jr., during a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.

According to Mati Ali, Personal Assistant Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen diplomatic and military cooperation in the interest of regional peace and global security.

Discussions focused on counterterrorism, defence procurement, intelligence sharing, and military training, with the Minister praising the United States for its ongoing support in strengthening the capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Both parties recognised the increasing complexity of security threats in West Africa and pledged to work closely through bilateral frameworks and future high-level consultations to find lasting solutions.

The visit aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks stronger international partnerships to enhance Nigeria’s defence and regional leadership.The meeting marked a renewed chapter in Nigeria–US relations, anchored on shared values, trust, and a commitment to global peace and stability.
