Police Nab Bandit Kingpin ‘Bingil’, Thwart Highway Attack in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit, Umar Alhaji Buhari, popularly known as “Bingil,” after preventing an attempt by armed criminals to block a major highway in the state.

The arrest followed a swift operation by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence received during a routine patrol along the Tsafe–Yankuzo axis, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said.

The incident occurred on December 21, 2025, at about 4:55 p.m., when police were alerted that heavily armed bandits had mounted a roadblock on the Tsafe–Yanwarin Daji road. The patrol team, led by ASP Aliyu Bilyaminu Koko, immediately moved in to restore normalcy.

On sighting the police, the bandits reportedly opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Several of the suspects fled into surrounding bushes and a nearby riverside, some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

However, one of the bandits, identified as Umar Alhaji Buhari alias “Bingil,” surrendered and was arrested. He is currently in custody and will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The police have commended members of the public for their cooperation and urged continued support through timely and useful information.
