A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Zamfara State and former governorship aspirant, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shamba, has criticized Nigerian security agencies for failing to neutralize notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, despite his public threats and audacious messages to the authorities.
Addressing journalists at his residence in Gusau, Abdullahi Shinkafi, widely known as “Mai APGA,” condemned the continued freedom of Turji, who he claimed is well-known to security forces.
He expressed regret over Turji’s ability to issue intimidating statements while terrorizing innocent communities unchallenged.
“The location of Turji and his family is no secret,” Shinkafi said. “Yet, he continues to threaten and harm innocent people with impunity. Security agencies must rise to the occasion and bring this warlord to justice to restore confidence among the populace.”
Shinkafi also urged opposition parties, including his APC, to set aside political differences and support Governor Dauda Lawal’s efforts to combat the state’s security challenges.
“This is not the time for politics,” he emphasized. “Let’s allow the governor to focus on restoring peace and stability.”
He further criticized the distribution of money to political supporters, calling it a wasteful distraction. “Instead of wasting resources, we should prioritize the protection of the masses and ensure they can pursue their livelihoods in safety,” he said.
This comes amid heightened tension following the release of a video by Bello Turji, who appeared armed and flanked by his heavily armed followers.
In the video, Turji demanded the unconditional release of his detained allies, warning of severe repercussions, including killings, kidnappings, and the imposition of levies on communities in Shinkafi and Zurmi if his demands are not met.
