Commercial drivers in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State staged a peaceful protest on the morning of today March 31, 2026, causing disruption as they temporarily blocked a major federal highway.

The demonstration began around 7:30 a.m., with drivers barricading the road near the central motor park in Anka Town. The action halted the movement of commuters and motorists, affecting a key route that connects Zamfara to Kebbi, Sokoto, and other parts of the country.
The protest was driven by growing concerns over insecurity on major roads, particularly along the Anka–Gurusu, Anka–Gummi, and Anka–Mayanchi corridors.
Drivers complained about recurring incidents of kidnappings and killings, which they say have made travel increasingly unsafe.
In response, security personnel including the police, military, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were deployed to manage the situation and ensure order.

CC Sani Mustapha, Commandant of the NSCDC in Zamfara State, confirmed the development, noting that joint efforts by security agencies led to the reopening of the highway. He added that normal traffic has now resumed.
