Zamfara First Lady Becomes FLAC National Secretary

The First Lady of Zamfara State, Her Excellency Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has been appointed as the National Secretary of the “First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC)” initiative, a group of Nigerian First Ladies united in the fight against cancer through advocacy, policy reform, and grassroots support.

According to Rabi’atu Yusuf, Senior Special Assistant, Media/Press Secretary, Office of the First Lady, the appointment was announced at the FLAC meeting held recently in Abuja.

Her Excellency’s new role highlights her efforts in improving cancer awareness and healthcare in Zamfara. She has led free breast cancer screenings, awareness campaigns, and sponsored surgeries for over 100 patients. She also personally donated ₦3.5 million to support treatment for cancer patients in need.

As National Secretary, she will work with other First Ladies to strengthen early detection campaigns, boost survivor support, and push for better cancer care policies, especially in underserved areas.

The Abuja event also saw donations to cancer support groups such as the Network of People Impacted by Cancer in Nigeria (NePICiN) and the Health & Psychological Trust Center.

FLAC Chairperson and First Lady of Imo State, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, described the initiative as “a profound investment in life, dignity, and health equity.”

Other First Ladies present included H.E. Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, H.E. Dr. Linda Ayade, and H.E. Zainab Nasir Idris.

This national recognition further boosts Zamfara’s position in the health advocacy space and women-led development efforts.
