Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed Zamfara State’s readiness to embrace ranching and support the initiatives of the newly established Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor made this known during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, at the ministry’s headquarters on Thursday.
The statement revealed Zamfara’s potential as an agrarian state and its strategic role in the ministry’s mandate to reform Nigeria’s livestock sector, enhance food security, and attract investment. Governor Lawal emphasized the state’s potential, citing its numerous earth dams that could be rehabilitated to support livestock development.
“We are here today to congratulate you on the establishment of this new ministry, which I believe is timely. Additionally, we aim to foster a strong collaboration between our state and the ministry,” he said.
The governor also extended an invitation to the minister to visit Zamfara for an on-ground assessment.
In his response, Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha praised Governor Lawal for being the first governor to visit the ministry, describing the gesture as commendable. The minister assured the governor of the ministry’s commitment to modernizing the livestock sector and revealed plans to make Zamfara a pilot state for its agenda.
“Your Excellency, Zamfara State will be the pilot state to showcase the agenda of the new ministry. With this collaboration, we will turn the Gidan Jaji in Zamfara into a mini agricultural hub,” the minister stated.
