OPFY Refutes Claims of Civilian Casualties in Zamfara Strike

Operation FANSAN Yamma (OPFY) has rejected allegations that a Nigerian Air Force strike in Zamfara hit a civilian wedding and caused civilian deaths, describing the reports as baseless and misleading.

In a statement on Friday, OPFY’s Media Information Officer, Captain David Adewusi, said the airstrike carried out on 4 August 2025 targeted heavily armed terrorists, including the notorious bandit leader Ado Aliero, at the base of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area.

According to him, the event, which appeared to be a wedding, was actually a cover for a gathering of terrorists from parts of Katsina and Zamfara States planning coordinated attacks on nearby communities.

Intelligence and surveillance confirmed the presence of armed fighters before precision-guided munitions were deployed, killing several terrorists and injuring others.

He added that troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY later moved to block fleeing terrorists but were ambushed at Asola Hills.

They repelled the attack, killing more terrorists and injuring four known collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village.

Two soldiers wounded in the clash are receiving treatment and are stable.OPFY said the operation, which eliminated no fewer than 30 terrorists, has brought relief to residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding areas.

Local sources also confirmed there were no civilian casualties. The force urged Nigerians to ignore false claims aimed at discrediting ongoing security operations.
