
The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has launched a medical outreach aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare for residents of Gusau and surrounding communities.
In a statement issued by the Press Secretary, Office of the First Lady, Rabi Yusuf the outreach, held at the Emir’s Palace in Gusau, featured free medical consultations, screenings and treatment for common illnesses such as malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diabetes and cholera. Beneficiaries also received free medications and referrals for further care.
Hajiya Huriyya said access to healthcare is a fundamental right and reaffirmed the commitment of the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative to supporting underserved communities. She commended Governor Dauda Lawal for declaring a State of Emergency on Health, describing it as a step towards improving healthcare across the state.
She also appreciated the Association of Resident Doctors, Zamfara State Chapter, for partnering in the outreach.
President of the Association, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Dauran, thanked the First Lady for consistently sponsoring the programme, noting that last year’s edition benefited more than 1,700 people.
In his goodwill message, the Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, praised the First Lady for prioritizing the needs of vulnerable groups and extending support to all categories of residents.
The outreach is part of activities marking the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and includes school sensitization, public awareness activities, online safety workshops and community engagements.
Hajiya Huriyya urged residents to maintain good hygiene practices to prevent disease outbreaks and prayed for continued peace and progress in Zamfara State.
