Zamfara health officials plan improved healthcare access

Health officials in Zamfara State have met to improve healthcare delivery through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) by planning enrollee town hall meetings for the first quarter of 2025.

The planning meeting was held on July 19 at the ZAMCHEMA conference hall. According to Suleiman Isah, Information Officer at the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, the meeting focused on informing beneficiaries, gathering feedback, and addressing service challenges for better decision-making.

Executive Secretary/CEO of ZAMCHEMA, Dr. Iliyasu Saleh Ahmed, said the agency has taken full ownership of the process, in line with the administration’s health improvement agenda.

Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Malan Abdullahi Mande Gusau, outlined key goals, including reintroducing town halls, guiding local government teams, and finding practical solutions to challenges in BHCPF facilities.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Malan Bashir Surajo Gusau. He commended ongoing efforts to upgrade health facilities, train staff, ensure medicine availability, and improve healthcare delivery.

He emphasized accountability and professionalism, warning against poor performance. He also stressed community and stakeholder involvement for sustainable progress.

The Commissioner praised Dr. Ahmed for prompt payments to BHCPF facilities and maintaining quality assurance.

A representative of the PHC Directors forum expressed readiness to support the initiative despite previous challenges.

The meeting ended with a directive for LGA teams to create tracking plans for the town hall meetings and a charge to all stakeholders to achieve set targets.
