
The Zamfara State Police Command has achieved a notable success following the seizure of 2,500 litres of suspected dangerous and toxic chemicals in Gusau Local Government Area.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that the chemicals were intercepted by operatives of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit during a routine patrol at Lalan area on 28 January 2026, at about 4:40 p.m.
He explained that the substances were stored in one hundred jerricans, each with a capacity of 25 litres, and were suspected to pose serious threats to public safety and the environment.
Police authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to trace the origin, ownership and purpose of the chemicals, with a view to bringing those responsible to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while calling on the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the police.
