A public affairs analyst, Dr. Lawal Umar Maradun, has dismissed recent allegations against the Minister of State for Defence, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, as baseless and politically motivated.
Dr. Maradun said the attacks by unnamed groups, including calls for President Tinubu to caution Matawalle, are nothing but a smear campaign. He alleged that the groups hired non-indigenes to protest and petition the EFCC against the former Zamfara governor without credible evidence.
He said the real reason for the criticism was Matawalle’s strong support for President Tinubu and the APC-led government, as well as his active role in defending government policies and national unity.
Dr. Maradun accused Matawalle’s critics of failing to address insecurity and poverty in Zamfara State. Instead, he said they resorted to mudslinging out of envy and political frustration.
He praised Matawalle’s record both as governor and minister, highlighting his efforts to support the people through donations during Ramadan, assistance to flood victims, and his recent condolence visit to the family of a slain Chief Imam in Maru.
According to Dr. Maradun, Matawalle ran an inclusive administration that appointed youths and professionals from all wards in the state and launched impactful social intervention programmes like the Zamfara State Social Intervention Programme (ZASIP).
He said many former appointees still speak highly of Matawalle’s leadership, saying his administration gave them a platform to serve and impact their communities.
Dr. Maradun called for an end to political distractions, urging all parties to focus on national development and unity in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
