DHQ team hails troops battling Northwest terror

The Defence headquarters (DHQ) assessment team has commended troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) for their bravery and sustained efforts in tackling terrorism and armed banditry across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region.

This commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of OPFY, Captain David Adewusi, following the team’s visit to the Joint Task Force Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, on July 15, 2025. The team was led by Major General W. B. Idris.

According to Captain Adewusi, the assessment tour aimed to review ongoing operations, enhance synergy among security agencies, and ensure field strategies align with broader military objectives.

Major General Idris applauded the professionalism and commitment of the troops, acknowledging the tough terrain and challenging security conditions they face daily. He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and deepening coordination among all stakeholders involved in the operation.

In response, the Theatre Commander of OPFY, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a morale booster. He reaffirmed his commitment to operational success and the continued collaboration of all agencies in the joint effort.

The DHQ team also visited forward operational bases in Kwotorkoshi and Tsafe, both in Zamfara State, where they interacted with personnel and encouraged them to stay focused on their mission to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
