Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has approved ₦1 billion for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme, aimed at providing 34,000 plates of food daily to residents across the state.

The governor made this known during the flag-off of the distribution of Ramadan food items and the formal inauguration of the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Committee. The event was held at the Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau in Sokoto.
He said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to compassion, service to humanity, and the preservation of the noble values of the holy month of Ramadan.
Governor Aliyu announced that the number of feeding centres has been increased from 155 to 170 across the state to reach more people in need. He also revealed that ad hoc staff have been engaged to work under the supervision of the newly inaugurated committee to ensure efficiency, accountability, and proper service delivery.
The governor reassured the people of Sokoto State that his administration remains committed to policies and initiatives that promote social cohesion and religious harmony.
He urged members of the feeding committee to carry out their duties with the fear of Allah, sincerity, and transparency, stressing that their assignment is both a public trust and an act of worship.
Governor Aliyu added that since assuming office two years ago, his administration has recorded significant achievements in promoting Islamic affairs in the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Sani Maihula, said the governor was not just inaugurating a committee but continuing a legacy of compassion.
He thanked Governor Aliyu for improving the programme, noting that it was designed to make Ramadan easier for the people of Sokoto State.
Dr. Maihula also called on committee members to work together with dedication, integrity, and honesty, emphasizing that the success of the feeding programme depends on ensuring that food reaches the intended beneficiaries without compromise.
