The National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajia A’isha Ibrahim, has inaugurated the newly elected executives of the association’s Kano State Council.
The inauguration, held at the NUJ Press Center, also featured the commissioning of a new NAWOJ Secretariat.
In her address, Hajia A’isha Ibrahim urged the new leadership, led by Sayyada Bahijja Kabara, to uphold the trust placed in them and work diligently to achieve the association’s objectives. She emphasized the importance of unity among members and encouraged the executives to focus on promoting the development of Kano State and the country as a whole.
The newly commissioned NAWOJ Secretariat, donated by the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), was formally handed over to the women journalists. Hajia A’isha urged the NAWOJ leaders to make efficient use of the new facility.
Comrade Wasila Ladan, the National Secretary of NAWOJ, described the new executive committee as a turning point for journalism and humanitarian efforts in Kano State. She appealed to the state government and stakeholders to support the new team in achieving its set objectives.
The Chairman of NUJ Kano State Council, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, expressed confidence in the abilities of the new leadership, noting Sayyada Bahijja Kabara’s strong track record in journalism. He pledged the NUJ’s full cooperation with NAWOJ under her leadership.
In her acceptance speech, Sayyada Bahijja Kabara promised inclusive leadership and announced plans for regular training and capacity building for female journalists in the state.
The inauguration, attended by top government officials, business leaders, and journalists, was marked by jubilation. Key figures present included the Executive Governor of Kano State, represented by the Commissioner of Information, Comrade Baba Dantiye, and the Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Danbatta as well as the Zonal secretary of the NUJ Zone A Comrade Abdulrazak Bello Kaura.
The event concluded with a dinner to honor NAWOJ National Secretary who hails from Kano, newly inaugurated exco and outstanding personalities for their contributions in the field of journalism and service to the community.
The newly elected officials of the NAWOJ Kano State Council are Sayyada Bahijja Kabara (Chairperson), Halima Yazid (Vice Chairperson), Maryam Muhammad Yakasai (Secretary), A’isha Muhammad Yalleman (Assistant Secretary), Rabi Bature (Treasurer), Hauwa Umar (Financial Secretary), and Binta Kabir Usman (Internal Auditor).
