28-Year-old lawmaker, Ibrahim wins Thisday newspaper young global Leaders award

Honourable Ibrahim Mohammed, representing Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, and Bunza Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has emerged as one of the recipients of the prestigious Thisday Newspaper’s Young Global Leaders Award.

This accolade celebrates his remarkable contributions to healthcare, education, and economic empowerment, solidifying his position as a transformative leader.Born on May 15, 1996, Honourable Mohammed made history in the 2023 general elections by becoming Nigeria’s youngest Federal Lawmaker at just 27 years old.

His meteoric rise in public service has positioned him as a beacon of hope for young Nigerians, showcasing that ambition, dedication, and hard work can drive impactful change.Since assuming office, Honourable Mohammed has spearheaded various initiatives to uplift his constituency and beyond.

He has provided free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms to students, donated vital medical equipment to healthcare facilities, supported small business owners financially, and facilitated skills acquisition training for women and youth.

Furthermore, he has consistently advocated for the inclusion and welfare of persons with disabilities, underscoring his commitment to equitable and sustainable development.

As a legislator, he has introduced several critical bills aimed at improving education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. Currently, he serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Culture and Creative Economy and is an active member of multiple committees in the National Assembly.

Honourable Mohammed joins a distinguished list of awardees, including Olori Ivie Atunwase III, Queen of Warri Kingdom; Jennifer Adighije, CEO of Niger Delta Power Company; Neya Uzor Kalu, Chairman of Sun Newspaper; Shola Akinlade, co-founder and CEO of Paystack; and Nnamdi Ekeh, CEO of Konga Group.

The 2025 Young Global Leaders Award also celebrated other trailblazers such as Temilade Openiyi (Tems), Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe (Ayra Starr), Folake Akindele of Tiffany Amber, chess champion Tunde Onakoya, and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.

This recognition highlights Honourable Mohammed’s tireless efforts to drive positive change in Nigeria.
