OPFY Troops Thwart Kidnapping, Attacks, Rescue Victims in Sokoto, Katsina

Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a heavy blow to terrorists, neutralizing criminals and rescuing abducted civilians during coordinated operations across Sokoto and Katsina states. The gallant troops also foiled attacks, thwarted kidnapping attempts, and recovered a large cache of arms and rustled livestock.

The Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. He reassured the public that aggressive operations will be sustained to dismantle all terrorist networks and restore lasting peace to the region.

The breakthrough began on June 21, 2026, when troops swiftly foiled an attempt by armed terrorists to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State. Aerial surveillance tracked the fleeing criminals to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were spotted with hostages and stolen livestock. Troops gave a hot pursuit, fought through a terrorist ambush with superior firepower, and successfully rescued the abductees while recovering the cattle and two motorcycles.

In another decisive encounter early Monday morning, the troops executed a dawn raid on a terrorist enclave in the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. The surprise assault completely overwhelmed the criminals, resulting in the neutralization of two terrorists while several others fled with gunshot wounds.

Danja noted that, a thorough search of the Katsina hideout led to the recovery of one PKT assault rifle, one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile phones, and rustled livestock. The military command emphasized that these victories showcase the professionalism of the troops as they continue to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the North West.
