Onslaught: Troops Rescue 7 Kidnap Victims, Foil Abductions in Katsina, Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims and thwarted coordinated abduction attempts across Katsina and Zamfara States.

The breakthrough was confirmed in a statement released today by the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

The operations, which took place on June 16, 2026, saw troops intensify their offensive against terrorist enclaves in Katsina State under Operation CLEAN SWEEP 3. Acting on intelligence, the forces targeted a notorious terrorist hideout in Fafu Village, Matazu Local Government Area. Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the terrorists fled their camp, abandoning four captives who were immediately rescued and are now receiving medical attention.

In a simultaneous development, troops deployed to Zamfara State swiftly foiled a separate kidnapping attempt in Zurmi town. Responding to a distress call after terrorists infiltrated the community to abduct residents, the troops engaged the criminals in a fierce firefight. The attackers were forced to abandon their mission and retreat, allowing troops to secure the area and rescue three additional victims, who have since been reunited with their families.

According to the military command, these consecutive successes reveal Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s relentless commitment to eradicating banditry and protecting lives across the region. The troops remain resolute in sustaining their offensive operations to deny terrorists any freedom of action and restore lasting peace to the affected communities.
