Gov Dauda invites Govs, Matawalle, Yari, others to unveils Guards

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state has invited the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, former governor of the state, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (representing Zamfara west) former governor Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi and first civilian governor of the state Ahmed Sani Yerima to the formal launching of the state’s local security outfit, Community Protection Guards (CPG) nicknamed “AskarawA” scheduled to hold on Wednesday in Gusau, the state capital.

In a statement issued today (Thursday) in Gusau by the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee and the Chief of Staff the governor, Muktar Lugga said the event is expected to draw the presence of all governors from the North West region, federal and state lawmakers and other important dignitaries from within and outside the state.

“Governor Dauda has repeatedly called on all Zamfara citizens, particularly the political class, to set aside differences and join hands in developing the State. He further reiterated his pledge to be open, fair and transparent in both his personal and official interaction in conformity with his oath of office,” Mr Lugga said in the statement.

Zamfara state has been battling with security challenges for over a decade leading to killings, kidnapping for ransom and cattle rustling.

The CPG is an initiative of Governor Lawal to support the conventional security forces in addressing the menace in the state.

SMARTS NEWS learnt that a total of 4,200 guards will be recruited across the 14 local government areas of the state under the initiative.
