Zamfara Introduces Small Claims Court for Quick Justice

The Zamfara State Government has launched a small claims court to expedite justice delivery, while stakeholders review a bill for establishing an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) center.

The review meeting, held at the Nigerian Army Officers’ Mess in Gusau, was organized by the state Ministry of Justice with support from a Non-governmental Organisation, ‘International Alert’ and UKAID.

The Attorney General, represented by Permanent Secretary Barr. Musa Garba Bukkuyum, praised International Alert and its Country Director, Dr. Paul Nyulaku-Bemshima, for facilitating the discussions.

He highlighted the government’s commitment under Governor Dauda Lawal to improving the justice system through initiatives like the “SABER Programme”, which introduced the small claims court.

Dr. Nyulaku emphasized the importance of a multidimensional approach to dispute resolution, stating that the proposed ADR center would create more avenues for settling conflicts efficiently.

The NGO Forum Director Musa Baba reaffirmed the role of NGOs in supporting government-led efforts to promote access to justice.
