Increasing number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has attracted the attention of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara State Council and expressed concern on the issue.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end Congress meeting of the union held at the press center in Gusau the state capital.
As part of the resolutions reached unanimously by the Journalists the union called on government to either establish IPDs camps or provide adequate security in the villages to enable the residents stay in their respective homes.
The Congress which was chaired by the Council’s Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare focused on review of the union’s progress at both the State and Chapel levels as well as deliberated on the current state of Zamfara State as critical stakeholders in public affairs.
“The Congress expressed deep concern over the high rate of IDPs in the state occasioned by security challenges and therefore called on Zamfara State Government to either establish IDP camps or ensure adequate security particularly in rural areas to prevent further displacement of people” the communique reads in part.
Similarly, the Congress enjoined the general public to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any security threat in their respective localities for possible action.
However, the congress applauded the state government under governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle for implementing the thirty thousand Naira minimum wage and called on the government to some lacunars in the payment to make it proper.
