The Zamfara chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to Zamfara state government to revive the youth acquisition programs across the 14 local government areas of the state so as to empower youth in the state.
The appeal was made by the Chairman Zamfara chapter of the NYCN Comr Bashir Garba, Esq during the 2023 Youth Conference held in Gusau on Sunday.
“Let me use this opportunity to commend the State Government particularly the
State Governor for engaging youth in governance by appointing Honourable
Commissioners, Special Advisers, Directors-General, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistant. Indeed Governor Matawallen Maradun has done what no Governor in Nigeria did by involving youths to fully participate in the governance of their State and by placing their future in their hands.
“In a similar vein, let me call on the State Government to look into the possibility of reviving the State Skill Acquisition Program across the 14 Local Government Areas of the State. This program provides massive training for youth in innovative aspects of skills for youth empowerment (SKYE) with strong emphasis on technical and vocational education training (TVET)) as designed by the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports and NYCN National body. This program to my believe will create more jobs and will in no small measure contribute in disengaging thousands of youths in criminal activities and political thuggery,” Mr Garba said.
“Let me also use this medium to call on the State Government and philanthropists
to look into the possibility of providing monthly impress for the NYCN, so as for
the council to be operational and not be dependent on members’ monetary
intervention whenever a program like this arises” the NYCN Chairman appealed.
The Chapter has also used the opportunity of the conference to inaugurate the state Advisory council and 14 local government caretaker-coordinators.
The conference with the theme “Youth charting the course” has focused on 2023 elections and CBN’s Naira redesign and cashless policy where paper presentations were made.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and Provost of Zamfara College of Arts and Science, Dr Yakubu Sanusi has commended the Zamfara chapter of the NYCN for organizing the conference and the choice of the right topics saying that youth are the good, the bad and the ugly of the election processes.
