The Zamfara State House of Assembly has deliberated on two critical bills aimed at establishing the Zamfara State Media Corporation and the Zamfara State Geographic Information Service during its plenary session.
This session followed a message from Governor Dauda Lawal, delivered through the Secretary to the State Government, Malan Abubakar M. Nakwada, and read aloud by the Clerk to the House, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi chaired the session, which featured extensive discussions with significant input from members, including Hon. Garba Ibrahim Liman (Gusau 2), Hon. Yakubu Almajir Bela (Bungudu East), Hon. Rilwanu Marafa Nagambo (Anka), Hon. Kabiru Mikailu Dangilbi (Maru South), and Hon. Nura Dahiru Sabon Birnin (Birnin Magaji). Both bills received their first and second readings following these deliberations.
The proposed Zamfara State Media Corporation aims to enhance service delivery, improve staff capacity, and manage state-owned media more efficiently. The House directed the House Committee on Information and the Committee on Justice and Judiciary to conduct further reviews and report back within two weeks.
The bill for establishing the Zamfara State Geographic Information Service was also discussed, emphasizing its potential to resolve land disputes, prevent encroachment, and address illegal rent issues. The House assigned the House Committee on Land and Housing and the Committee on Justice and Judiciary to investigate and report back in two weeks.
Earlier, House Leader Hon. Muhammad Bello Mazawaje sought approval for the bills to be presented separately as submitted by the executive arm of the state government. The House unanimously approved the request, allowing both bills to advance to their first and second readings.
