The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected drug smuggler, Kasimu Abubakar, for allegedly supplying cannabis to bandits in the state.

The operatives also rejected a ₦1 million bribe offered by the suspect in a bid to evade justice.

According to him, the suspect was caught with a large consignment of cannabis, allegedly intended for a bandit group in Mashema village, Zurmi local government area.

Umar revealed that intelligence from Lagos led to the interception of the illicit substance before it reached its intended destination.

Noting that the suspect confessed that he purchased 70 packs of cannabis for ₦1,050,000, intending to resell them at ₦25,000 per pack, yielding an estimated profit of ₦700,000.

“In a desperate attempt to secure his release, the suspect offered a bribe of ₦1 million to our officers at the Shinkafi Divisional Office, but it was outrightly rejected,” Umar said, emphasizing the command’s commitment to integrity and transparency.

Further investigations identified two accomplices, Zayyanu and Ashiru, who are currently at large.
