The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of attempting to deliver materials believed to be used in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to bandits operating in the state.

The suspect, Mustapha Mohammad, was arrested at about 4:15 p.m. on January 27, 2027, by operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining, acting on credible intelligence. The operation was coordinated by ASP Aminu Aliyu.
Police reports stated that Mohammad was intercepted while driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 933 EJ. A search of the vehicle uncovered 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials concealed in polyethylene bags.
Initial investigations indicated that the items were allegedly meant for use by bandits as IEDs, which authorities described as a major security concern.
The suspect remains in police custody, while the recovered materials have been safely secured and transferred to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit for proper examination and analysis.

Police say investigations are continuing to determine the origin and intended recipients of the materials and to track down other individuals linked to the case.
The Zamfara State Police Command added that the public would be kept informed as the investigation develops.
