Sokoto: Sarkin Gobir Pledges Stronger APC Leadership

The newly elected Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Ajiya, has pledged to work diligently to sustain the party’s mandate and fulfill its promises to the people of the state.

Alhaji Ajiya made the commitment during the 2026 APC State Congress held at the party’s secretariat on Sultan Abubakar Road in Sokoto. Speaking on behalf of the 36-member State Executive Committee, he expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and assured party members of strong dedication to the party’s progress.

He extended appreciation to Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, for entrusting the new leadership team with the responsibility. He also acknowledged the guidance and support of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako, describing him as a father figure and mentor to the party.

The chairman further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for observing the affirmation process and offered prayers for the continued success of the APC.

The election was conducted through a consensus process announced by Professor Mukhtar Aliyu Musa. Hon. Abubakar Shehu Yabo moved the motion for the adoption of the newly elected party leaders, which was seconded by Hon. Aminu Garba Gidado.

In his earlier welcome address, the immediate past APC State Chairman, Alhaji Isah Achida Turakin Achida, praised Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s achievements, noting that his administration has established a strong legacy within three years in office. He highlighted the execution of impactful developmental projects and commended the governor’s inclusive leadership style and open-door policy.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Governor Ahmad Aliyu; Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako; Deputy Governor Idris Mohammad Gobir; former Deputy Governors Chiso Muhammad Dattijo and Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, among others.
