The Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom in Lagos State, Oba (Engr.) Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of ‘Baba Isale’ on former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto).
This was contained in a statement signed by Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad (Danmadamin Birnin Magaji), Chairman Publicity Committee, Senator A.A. Yari Political Organization, on Sunday.
According to the Ayangburen, the honour bestowed during a ceremony at his palace in Ikorodu on Saturday, 15 November 2025 is reserved for individuals whose wealth and influence are devoted to uplifting humanity.
He described Senator Yari as a man whose development projects are people-focused, well-planned, and beneficial to all, regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation.
Oba Shotobi explained that since the kingdom’s foundation in 1630, appointments into its traditional council have always been based strictly on merit. He added that Senator Yari embodies the true meaning of ‘Baba Isale’ which means the pillar of support, through his actions and contributions.
The monarch prayed for Allah’s continued guidance, strength, and good health for the new title holder as he assumes his new responsibility in the Ikorodu Kingdom.
In his response, Senator Yari expressed gratitude to the Ayangburen and the people of Ikorodu for the recognition, describing the honour as a touching show of goodwill. He pledged to uphold the virtues and responsibilities attached to the revered title.
