The Zamfara State Government has issued a stern warning to villages providing cover for bandits, threatening demolition of any such communities.
The Deputy Governor of Zamfara, Malam Mani Mummuni, delivered the warning during a visit to Tsafe Emirate to console the community over the killing of nine members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), also known as “Askarawa,” who were ambushed by bandits along the Tsafe-Funtua road.

Speaking at the Tsafe Emir’s Palace, Mani Mummuni specifically pointed out Maikwanugga village, accusing its residents of aiding the bandits by providing shelter and meals. He stated that the village, located less than half a kilometer from the main road, allowed the bandits to spend the night before launching the deadly attack on the Askarawa, who were deployed to protect travelers.
“The village is just less than half a kilometer from the main road, but they decided to be used by bandits against our security personnel, who are working to defend innocent people,” lamented the deputy governor.
Mummuni stressed that the government would not tolerate the actions of “bad elements” working against the state’s efforts and those of security forces in curbing insecurity, which has claimed thousands of lives and destroyed property worth billions of naira.
In a bid to support the grieving families of the fallen Askarawa, the Zamfara State Government has donated food items and cash as a gesture of sympathy and assistance.
