Troops of 1 Brigade, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralized a notorious terrorist kingpin, Sani Rusu, during a fighting patrol in Bamamu Village, Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted on January 4, 2025, also involved engagements with other terrorists in the area, according to a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to him, on the same day, troops ambushed terrorists at Kwanar Jollof in Shinkafi LGA, acting on credible intelligence. The operation led to the elimination of several terrorists, with others sustaining serious injuries.
He noted that the items recovered included one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, three magazines, and three motorcycles.
“In addition to ground operations, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma carried out airstrikes targeting terrorist hideouts. On December 30, 2024, strikes were launched on a convergence of terrorists between Fakai and Kware in Shinkafi LGA, following intelligence about a meeting led by terrorist leader Bello Turji.
“Subsequent air operations on January 2, 2025, targeted Maikaman Rini in Sububu Forest, believed to be a stronghold of another terrorist kingpin, Ibrahim Chumo.
“On January 5, 2025, further strikes were executed against Bello Turji’s camp in Chida, Shinkafi LGA, resulting in significant casualties and destruction of hideouts.” The statement read in part.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorist threats and maintaining peace in the region. It also urged the public to cooperate by providing actionable intelligence to facilitate the success of ongoing operations.
