Tension is rising in Zamfara politics following the defection of Hon. Maharazu Salisu Faru, representing Maradun 2 Constituency in the State House of Assembly, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Gusau, saying the lawmaker and hundreds of his supporters were formally welcomed by the party’s state chairman, Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani, at the APC secretariat.
Hon. Faru said his decision to leave the PDP was due to Governor Dauda Lawal’s failure to deliver on campaign promises, particularly in addressing insecurity and ensuring justice within the party. He accused the state government of ignoring his constituency and favoring a few individuals.
Reacting to the defection, the PDP through its Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, said the move would not weaken the party’s structure in the state. The party described the lawmaker’s decision as a personal choice that he would soon regret.
The PDP maintained that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration is focused on rebuilding institutions, promoting good governance, and restoring confidence among the people of Zamfara.
