Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has extended his heartfelt sympathy to the people of Borno State following a devastating flood in Maiduguri that displaced over a million residents. In a gesture of solidarity, the Zamfara State Government has donated N100 million to assist the victims.
The governor, who was represented by Mallam Abubakar Nakwada, Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, visited Borno on Thursday to convey his condolences and offer support. Speaking on behalf of Governor Lawal at the Borno State Government House, Nakwada emphasized the deep concern of Zamfara residents for the plight of those affected by the disaster.
In a statement released by Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, the Zamfara delegation described the flooding triggered by the overflow of the Alu Dam as a “heart-wrenching” catastrophe.
“We are profoundly saddened by reports that over one million people have been displaced by this catastrophic event,” Nakwada said. “The thoughts and prayers of the people of Zamfara State, who have faced similar catastrophes on a smaller scale, are with our brothers and sisters in the affected families.”
The N100 million donation is intended to support relief efforts and help the affected communities in Maiduguri recover. Governor Lawal’s message also included prayers for the victims, asking Allah to grant peace to those who lost their lives and resilience to the survivors as they rebuild.
