The newly registered national body for Zamfara state students named Federated Association for Zamfara State Students (FAZAMSS) emerged and held its maiden national convention.

The convention chaired by Comrade Lawal Orbana was held on Tuesday in Gusau, Zamfara state capital during which the pioneer executive officials of the FAZAMSS were elected.
Prior to the election, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Committee for the association, Comrade Mu’awiya A. Ciroma Kaura while declaring the election open said, the mode of election would be an open secret ballot where the five (5) accredited delegates drawn from each of participating tertiary institutions that joined the body will decide who leads the association.
“Some positions were unopposed while some were keenly contested. Therefore, the election will affect only these contested positions,” the Chairman of the election declared.
After conclusion of the voting process, Mr Ciroma declared Abubakar Galadima as elected President; Fadimatu Salisu, Vice President (Internal); Isah Muhammad Vice President (External); Mahmud Aliyu as Secretary-General and Musa Muhammad Magami as Assistant Secretary-General of the association.
Others were Yasir Adamu, Financial Secretary; Mubarak Sani, Auditor-General; Rukayya Shuaibu, Treasurer; Hafsat Nura Marafa, Director of Gender; Zainab Almustapha, PRO I, Muhammad Shafiu, PRO II and; Shafiu Sani as Director Travels and Tours.
The rest were Zainab Hassan, Director Academic Affairs and Innovation; Umar Abdulmumin, Director Contacts and Mobilization; Fatima Muazu, Director Students with Special Needs; Ibrahim Sa’id, Director Business and Investments and; Zainab Buhari as Director Welfare and Social.
SMARTS NEWS learnt that the association is a breakaway of National Union of Zamfara State Students (NUZAMSS) currently tattered by a political crisis.
Why we come up with FAZAMSS—Convener
The convener for the creation of FAZAMSS, Comrade Umar Mahmud told Smart News that the new studenta body is a modification from NUZAMSS and will be a game changer to Zamfara indigenous students in Nigeria and diaspora.
“The reputation of NUZAMSS has been defeated and that is why we remodified it to revamp the image of the association.
“There was misappropriation of public resources under NUZAMSS. They sold a bus belonging to the union at 9 million and sold all the equipment at the secretariat of the union and misappropriated the funds,” Comrade Mahmud alleged.
He added that FAZAMSS will be different from NUZAMSS as it will be guided by the amended constitution of the association that makes adequate provisions for check and balance and for resolving internal disputes.
“What FAZAMSS will do differently is focusing on leadership training for students and other extra curricular innovations for the development of students’ capacity.
“FAZAMSS will be law abiding and engage with all relevant stakeholders including security agencies in its activities.
“It is worthy of note that for the first time, a peace accord was signed before the Department of State Security Service among all the aspirants,” Mr Mahmud added.
The convention has been witnessed by representatives of the security agencies while the Director Students Matters of Zamfara State Scholarship Board, Alhaji Tukur Aliyu represented the state government at the gorgeous event.
